Sustainable Design Before It Became Mainstream

Rather than presenting sustainability as an optional feature, RG Chan & Associates has long viewed environmental responsibility as an essential part of good architecture. Long before green building became a common requirement, our practice was already incorporating climate-responsive planning, efficient building systems, and resource-conscious design into projects throughout the Philippines.

What is BERDE?

BERDE (Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence) is the Philippine Green Building Rating System developed by the Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC). It evaluates projects based on environmental performance, energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor environmental quality, materials, site sustainability, and long-term operational performance.

BERDE certification provides an independent benchmark for environmentally responsible buildings while encouraging better design decisions throughout the project lifecycle.

Certified BERDE Professional (CBP)

To become a Certified BERDE Professional, participants first complete the intensive BERDE Professional Basic Training conducted by TÜV Rheinland and the Philippine Green Building Council.

Certification requires passing a comprehensive 200-question professional examination covering sustainable design principles, BERDE assessment categories, environmental regulations, building performance, and certification procedures.

The qualification demonstrates the professional capability to guide clients through the BERDE certification process and integrate sustainable strategies into building projects.
