Project Description

The Edgardo Nevada Residence was conceived as a bespoke mountain estate for a discerning client seeking a home that combines architectural sophistication, family-centered living, and timeless design. Situated on an elevated site with commanding views of the western horizon, the residence embraces the principles of the Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie Style, emphasizing strong horizontal lines, broad roof forms, and a seamless relationship between architecture and landscape.

Rather than imposing itself upon the site, the residence was carefully designed to follow the natural contours of the terrain. Its low, expansive profile reinforces a sense of permanence and belonging, while generous overhangs, layered roof planes, and carefully framed vistas establish a strong connection to the surrounding environment. The result is a residence that feels both grounded and graceful—one that derives its character from proportion, light, and spatial harmony rather than ornamentation.

At the heart of the home is a dramatic Great Room conceived as a grand gathering space for family and guests. Combining the living and dining functions within a soaring, light-filled volume, this central space captures panoramic mountain views and serves as the social focal point of the residence. Expansive glazing blurs the boundary between interior and exterior, allowing natural light and changing vistas to become integral elements of daily life.

The home's accommodation program reflects the lifestyle requirements of a large, multi-generational household. Five generously appointed family bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bath, provide privacy and comfort, while five additional staff bedrooms ensure efficient household operations. Supporting spaces include a gourmet kitchen, private study, fitness and wellness areas, extensive storage facilities, and dedicated service zones carefully integrated into the overall plan.

A defining architectural feature is the grand atrium staircase, which rises through the center of the residence beneath a skylit volume. More than a means of circulation, this space acts as the home's visual anchor, linking the various living areas while creating a dramatic interplay of light, openness, and movement. The staircase establishes a strong sense of continuity throughout the residence, transforming everyday circulation into an architectural experience.

Interior spaces were designed with the same attention to refinement and livability. Rich natural materials, warm finishes, custom millwork, and carefully controlled lighting create an atmosphere of understated luxury. Each room was individually considered to balance comfort with elegance, while maintaining a consistent design language throughout the home. Bedrooms, family areas, and private retreats are oriented to maximize views and natural light, reinforcing the connection between the residence and its mountain setting.

Beyond its generous accommodations and impressive scale, the Nevada Residence was envisioned as a sanctuary—a place where family life, hospitality, and personal retreat coexist within a thoughtfully crafted architectural environment. Every aspect of the design reflects a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and enduring value.

The Edgardo Nevada Residence stands as one of RGC&A's most comprehensive custom residential designs, demonstrating the firm's ability to translate a client's aspirations into a highly personalized architectural statement. It remains a compelling example of how timeless architectural principles, carefully adapted to site and lifestyle, can create a residence of lasting beauty and significance.
