Project Description

The Orchidarium Parking Facility was conceived as a sustainable urban infrastructure project designed to address the growing parking demands of central Baguio while preserving the character and environmental quality of the surrounding district. Strategically located at the corner of Kisad Road and Shagem Street, adjacent to Burnham Park, the development sought to provide an organized parking solution that would reduce roadside congestion and improve traffic circulation within one of the city's busiest activity centers.

Rather than treating the structure as a conventional parking garage, the project envisioned a Green Parking Building that would contribute positively to the urban landscape. The architectural design integrates extensive vertical landscaping, planted terraces, and rooftop gardens, transforming what is typically an utilitarian facility into a visually appealing landmark. The green façade softens the building's mass, enhances its environmental performance, and reflects Baguio City's long-standing identity as a garden city.

The multi-level facility was planned to accommodate a significant number of parking spaces while maintaining efficient vehicular circulation and ease of access. A carefully organized layout separates vehicle movements from pedestrian pathways, improving safety and convenience for users. The open-sided configuration promotes natural lighting and ventilation throughout the structure, reducing dependence on mechanical systems and lowering operating costs.

Environmental sustainability was a central consideration in the development of the project. The design incorporates landscaped decks, permeable open spaces, and rooftop planting areas that help mitigate heat gain, improve stormwater management, and enhance the overall user experience. Opportunities for renewable energy integration and water conservation measures were likewise considered as part of the project's green-building approach.

Beyond its primary function as a parking facility, the development was envisioned as a catalyst for urban improvement. By consolidating parking demand into a purpose-built structure, the project would help reduce indiscriminate roadside parking, improve traffic flow, and create a more pedestrian-friendly environment in the surrounding area.
